Text and Visual Study with Jessica Tamar Deutsch

Come learn with Jessica Tamar Deutsch, illustrator and teacher, about the process of combining Jewish text and art through delving into the process of creating The Illustrated Pirkei Avot: A Graphic Novel of Jewish Ethics. We’ll learn a few pages of the book together, and have an opportunity for group discussion and havurah.
Copies of The Illustrated Pirkei Avot will be available for purchase.

Jessica Tamar Deutsch is a New York-based artist. Her work explores the intersection of ancient tradition and contemporary culture. She earned a BFA in illustration from Parsons School of Design.

We will be meeting on the first floor of the Wolfond Centre, 36 Harbord Street

Services will start at 6:30 pm followed by a three-table potluck.

Please bring a vegetarian dish to share (dairy and Kosher fish is fine), made with Kosher ingredients. Your dish can either be home cooked or purchased.

When you arrive, you will be asked to place your dish on one of three tables:
Table 1. Vegetarian food prepared in strictly kosher kitchens – all packaged/processed foods & drinks (incl. cheese & wine) have a hekhsher.
Table 2. Vegetarian food prepared in strictly vegetarian kitchens – no meat or fowl at all in the kitchen (kosher fish is ok)
Table 3. Vegetarian food prepared in omnivores’ kitchens – the specific food brought still needs to be vegetarian (kosher fish is ok), but the kitchen isn’t strictly vegetarian nor kosher.

The downtown Tikkun Leil Shavuot is back, with a  night (and later night…and morning) of community, study, singing, snacking and more! Over 50 sessions to attend. Reimagine traditional Jewish texts and open up new and engaging conversations. Special programs for kids and teens. All are welcome!

Musical Kabbalat Shabbat

This Friday night, to get ready for the joy of Shavuot, we’re bringing back musical Kabbalat Shabbat! We’ll be using muscial instruments until the end of Lecha Dodi. (We’ll be put them away before candle lighting time) Services will, of course, be followed by our regular vegetarian potluck dinner.

Services start at 6:30 pm on Friday.

Join us for services (because it’s a holiday, Kabbalat Shabbat will be short) and potluck dinner.

Services will be followed by a kosher-for-Pesach potluck. Please only bring contributions that are strictly kosher of passover (made in a strictly kosher kitchen or purchased with a kosher-for-pesach hashgacah/stamp)
