Have Questions?

The education at Annex Shul is based on the belief that when you mix a thoughtful teacher with good coffee, an interesting piece of Jewish text, and open-minded people, something special is bound to happen. Our weekly classes and series are discussion based and interactive and we encourage you to grapple with the ideas presented. We learn in coffee shops, bars, the Wolfond Centre and anywhere else that has a good vibe, as we believe that Jewish learning can and should happen everywhere. Our past classes have included, the weekly Torah portion, Jewish history, cooking, Jewish Couplehood, davening and holiday classes. We are always open to new ideas, so please let us know what you would like to learn with us.

Jewish Couplehood

In partnership with Beth Tzedec, Annex Shul is offering this five week course for couples (dating, engaged or married) which will create an inclusive framework to learn about, grapple with and begin to answer the most crucial Jewish questions that a couple needs to address while building a meaningful life together. Same sex and interfaith couples welcome. Traditional as well as modern approaches to core practices will be explored and couples should expect to be left with choices rather than one direct path towards building a meaningful home. No previous experience in Jewish learning is required, but past experiences will be built upon and a desire to learn with an open mind is a must. This course is open to same sex and interfaith couples.

The Jewish Way

Each month, using the famous book by Rabbi Yitz Greenberg, we will reflect on the Jewish holidays by studying his unique approach to understanding the holidays and what each one adds to our understanding of Jewish history, relationship to God and role in the world.
